The author of the book analyzes five short stories of one of the most significant writers of modern Latin American literature with a mythocritical and symbological approach. From among the endeavors to define and systematize the ancient literary figures for the interpretation of existence (myth, symbol), the author opts for Gilbert Durand's comprehensive system originating in cultural anthropology as a theoretical foundation and starting point for her analytical strategy. The original and dynamic analyses of the short stories, which, at the same time, respect the aspects indicated by the texts themselves, result in coherent and thought-inspiring interpretations in each case. By bringing to surface the metacultural mythical figures, the archetypical oppositions and the network of symbolic motifs traceable in the deep structure of the narratives, the author provides us with original and valuable ideas for a better understanding of the literary world of Julio Cortzar, a writer in constan
