Normalmente un lactante no efectúa una locomoción autónoma hasta el sexto mes de vida; la natación para bebés abre esta posibilidad antes: ya a partir de la sexta o séptima semana de vida, se puede empezar a nadar con el lactante. Mediante el entrenamiento precoz se fortalecen los músculos y el tejido conjuntivo, se inculca el sentido del equilibrio y se previenen los daños causados por las malas posturas. Este libro está pensado para estimular el movimiento del bebé a través de ejercicios lúdicos en el agua y para que los padres tengan unos momentos en los que mantener un estrecho contacto corporal con sus hijos. Dividido en dos partes, la primera se centra en los bebés a partir de la sexta semana de vida y la segunda en los niños pequeños, a partir de 1 año. La autora, Barbara Ahr, es especialista médica en baños, masajista y fisioterapeuta deportiva. Estudió pedagogía médica en la Universidad de Humbold, Berlín.
