Domingo del Monte fue un escritor y crítico literario cubano. Su obra Centón epistolario (1823-1857), recoge la correspondencia recibida a lo largo de su vida y ordenada por él mismo. Estas cartas ofrecen datos esenciales sobre la historia política y literaria cubana de los años 1822-1843. Constituyen una de las obras más excepcionales, originales y útiles de la historia intelectual cubana. El Centón se editó en siete tomos entre 1923 y 1957 por la Academia de la Historia de Cuba.
