El señor Matsuda

Resumen del Libro

Los niños del barrio conjeturan acerca del sr. Matsuda, un japonés que ha llegado a vivir al vecindario e instalado un vivero, prejuiciados por las películas de guerra donde los nipones son siempre los malos. Se da entonces para uno de ellos, el protagonista de este relato, la oportunidad de trabajar con el nuevo vecino, ayudándole durante el verano en el vivero. Así comienza a florecer una amistad entre estas dos personas de diferentes generaciones y nacionalidades, enterándose el pequeño no solo de que su nuevo amigo luchó en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y tuvo la desgracia de ver y vivir en carne propia cuando Estados Unidos lanzó la bomba atómica de Hiroshima, sino además que en un conflicto bélico ser el malo o bueno es algo muy relativo y depende de quién haya ganado la guerra o escrito la historia. Por su parte, el sr. Matsuda aprende del niño que las tradiciones siempre se pueden flexibilizar cuando se trata de tener cerca de la familia.
