Sámano es un territorio situado en el límite oriental de Cantabria, formado por los concejos de Mioño, Ontón, Otañes, Lusa y Agüera. En esta obra se analizan aspectos políticos, institucionales, sociales, jurídicos y económicos de Sámano desde su constitución como Junta en la Baja Edad Media hasta la disolución de su ayuntamiento en 1871, cuando se repartieron sus lugares y valles entre los municipios vecinos de Castro y Guriezo

A lo largo del siglo XVIII, España vivió una serie de tensiones y conflictos derivados de las contradicciones entre los intereses del viejo orden social y las exigencias de la dinámica moderna. Para el autor de este volumen, la clave del período está en la constante relación entre lo individual y lo colectivo, entre las acciones humanas y las condiciones sociales heredadas e impuestas por intereses muy minoritarios, empeñados en perpetuarse.
