La herencia medieval de México

Resumen del Libro

Libro La herencia medieval de México

The Medieval Heritage of Mexico is the result of more than thirty years' intensive research. This work examines, more thoroughly than any other, the medieval legacy that influences life in Spanish-speaking North America to the present day. Focusing on the period from 1517--the expedition of Hernandez de Cordoba--to the middle of the seventeenth century, Weckmann describes how explorers, administrators, judges, and clergy introduced to the New World a culture that was essentially medieval. This culture was, in some respects, a flowering--a rebirth, even--of the ideals and institutions of medieval Europe, at a time when Europe itself was in the throes of the religious, political, and cultural upheavals of the early modern period. That the transplanted culture differentiated itself from that of Spain is due to the resistance of the indigenous cultures of Mexico.

In this new telling of Mexico's Second Empire and Louis Napoléon's installation of Maximilian von Habsburg and his wife, Carlota of Belgium, as the emperor and empress of Mexico, Maximilian and Carlota brings the dramatic, interesting, and tragic time of this six-year-siege to life. From 1861 to 1866, the French incorporated the armies of Austria, Belgium--including forces from Crimea to Egypt--to fight and subdue the regime of Mexico's Benito Juárez during the time of the U.S. Civil War. France viewed this as a chance to seize Mexican territory in a moment they were convinced the...

Así conocemos desde los más exquisitos refinamientos cortesanos, que las familias linajudas se esforzaron para asimilar de sus modelos europeos recién importados, hasta las manifestaciones más elementales...

El Collar de Fuego

Libro El Collar de Fuego

There is nothing so dangerous for a town in America as the disinterested love of the United States. Their protection is a fire necklace. Justo Sierra The Fire Necklace is an immense, astonishing novel, where the vibrant prose melts down with the historical erudition. Valerio Evangelisti has written a book difficult to put down once the reading has started; a book in which the reader's imagination keeps running boldly while memorizing and assimilating the homeland's past. It's the story of the Mexican XIX century as never before has been written; its connective threads are the contradictory...
